Glencadam is known for its delicate, floral elegance. But here? Here the whisky takes a step back. It makes room. For whom? For a cask that rarely plays the lead: White Port. The result is not a heavy sherry bomb, but a bright, almost fragile dancer. A whisky that doesn't warm, but refreshes.

The Facts
Glencadam Reserva de Porto Branco
Highlands | NAS | 46% | Ex-Bourbon & White Port Barrique Finish
My Notes
Nose:
White wine freshness. Bright fruit reminiscent of pear and mirabelle plum, but with a tart vinegar note that acts almost like grape. Plus almond. Very bright, very clear, very cask-driven.
Palate
Soft and creamy on the attack. The sweetness is there, but it is dry. Bright fruit mixes with distinct barrique influence. It tastes of white port, of summer, of elegance.
Finish
The alcohol wipes the aromas aside slightly. What remains is a dry sweetness, minimal spice, and some wood. Clean, but short.
The Aura
Why these colors? Pale Gold is the bright, fresh fruitiness that sets the tone – pear and mirabelle. Vine Green stands for the wine-like, almost tart port note that dominates everything. And Dry Sand? That is the dry wood note in the finish that gives the whole thing structure.

My Verdict on Glencadam Reserva de Porto Branco
A cask-driven Glencadam where the White Port finish plays the leading role. Elegant, mild, and stylistically clear. If you are looking for heavy sweetness, you are wrong here. If you are looking for an aperitif whisky, you will love it.

Official Notes for Glencadam Reserva de Porto Branco
Here’s the distillery’s official version for comparison:
Nose:
Tangy strawberries and stone fruits bound with Chantilly cream, buttery malt, and citrus oils.
Palate
Sweet layers of summer berries and baked apple mingled with golden raisins, raspberry jam, and brandy snap biscuits.
Finish
White pepper and custard tarts fading into cinder toffee and sandalwood linger.
The Reality Check
Glencadam describes a dessert: strawberries, cream, jam. My experience is drier: white wine, vinegar, grape. The distillery celebrates the sweet peaks of the port wine. I feel above all its dry structure and the barrique influence. Both are true – they describe the potential, I experience the reality in the glass.
