Ardnamurchan /AD Mezcal Cask Release
Single Malt | Highlands | 7 Jahre | 50% | Mezcal Cask
I say: A Scottish Mezcal. The label says: Mezcal Cask Finish. Real Talk: Often such experiments go wrong and just taste “wrong”. Not here. Ardnamurchan has managed to connect the two worlds without one killing the other. It is harmonious, but wild.
Nose: Tasted blind, I’d say: Mezcal. The fruity, green agave note is right at the front. The whisky holds back politely and lets the Mexican guest take the lead.
Palate: Here too, the Mezcal sets the tone. That typical earthy smoke, the fruitiness of the agave. It’s close to the original. But then you feel the power of the whisky. It floods the mouth with a decent sharpness – not unpleasant, more like chili in chocolate. Later it calms down, almost wine-like with notes of light grape must. Exciting.
Finish: Long, warming. The impression of a really good, complex whisky remains after the agave has faded.
Verdict: A great combination that hits my taste perfectly. But beware: This is not for purists. You have to know and like Mezcal to appreciate this whisky. Those open to new things will be rewarded with a unique experience here.
